One spot in our shared studio is coming open April 1, possibly earlier. It has a hardwood floor, an open plan of about 400 square feet divided into quadrants, with one quadrant (about 10' x 10') for each artist's equipment and materials, and two openable windows towards the south.

It is adjacent to the BFAC main space, where drawing and painting sessions (with models) are held four times a week.

Rent is $296 per month, all utilities included. There is 24-hour access to the building. Some parking is available on the street (no overnight parking without a permit), with daytime parking in a lot around the back.

The space is best for a painter or similar practitioner who is community-minded and considerate. The four artists sharing the studio are typically not in the space at the same time, as they have different schedules. The larger BFAC studio is available for use when drawing and painting sessions are not being held.

We look for artists who respect each other's need to work while also appreciating some connection to other creative people.

If interested, email us at bfacmanagement@gmail.com

The photos show views of part of the shared space (not necessarily the space now available), plus views of the main BFAC workspace.

The BFAC Fall Figure Drawing Workshop, FIGURING IT OUT, has been postponed. We hope to present it again in January.

The BFAC Fall Figure Drawing Workshop, FIGURING IT OUT, is for anyone who wants to learn about drawing from life and to develop skills using traditional techniques for realistic drawings. The course will explore graphite and charcoal and their rich possibilities for creating beautiful drawings. It will transform your way of seeing and working in order to create the drawings you want to make.

This workshop will meet for 6 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 10:00 PM, beginning on November 8, 2022.

Each session will include short lectures, homework reviews, demonstrations, and drawing from a live model.

See the event listing Figuring It Out to sign up.

    Dear Artists,

Boston Figurative Art Center (BFAC) is an artist’s cooperative founded by artist and teacher Damon Lehrer in 2009 focusing on promoting figure drawing and painting.  BFAC offers a variety of sessions bringing artists of all levels together to enjoy creating artwork with live models. The center has been a part of the Vernon Street Studios community since its inception.

Unfortunately, due to the impending retirement of our founder, the center is at risk of losing its lease in October.  BFAC has every desire to keep serving our artist community, but its ability in continuing the figurative art sessions is dependent on having access to a studio space.  While we are pursuing a few leads, we would like to reach out to our community to see if there are other studio spaces we might consider.

    Our studio requirements:

    ·  Roughly 500 - 1000 square feet, with electricity and a floor that can get dirty

    ·  Storage space for a model stand, furniture, and in-progress artwork

    ·  Enough ventilation for oil painting

    ·  Would consider both lease and sublease

Ideally, we'd find a permanent home, but temporary studio space to keep us going in the near term would be welcome too. Please reach out to us if you have any suggestions!

    Thank you,

    BFAC Management
